The real money inside private server business

Recently i had a discussion with few friends about how huge are admins of one of the best private servers out there(Warmane, wowcircle etc.). We came to conclusion while comparing some statistics that they earn up to 10.000$ per day due to the fact that i know a friend of mine who earns around 2k per month with something around 80-100 players. I am wondering is this even possible? We all know about wow-scape drama and the big 3M$ seize. Do these private servers really earn this much?

I don't think it is that much at all. Unless the players are really dumb and spend money for pay-to-win private server stuff which means the money goes into the bag of some unknown dude that keeps hiding from Blizzard's lawyers for a obvious reason.

2k per month from 80 - 100 player is never possible in my opinion because this would mean those players would spend more money on that server rather than a sub-fee for retail which sounds pretty unrealistic to me even with the nostalgic factor. Even if only a part of those players would pay money, I think 80 - 100 players would maybe throw off like... 50 bucks or so? But for sure not those insane numbers.

Why is this not realistic? Take a look at all of the minecraft servers, people are banking ~1k dolars a month with 100ish players online. And wow can provide alot more to players who actually want to get rewarded by donating. What is up WoW Scape? You know for the fact that they had 3M$ on their paypal account when they got sued and they were online for 2 years. These numbers are pretty realistic.

I doubt 10k a day for warmane. I'd say 1k a day minimum. Which is still 30k a month. Crazy stuff.

Once again, i'm giving example of WoW Scape which had 1/2 of warmane's population right now and they earned 3M$ in those 2 years. They don't want us to know that this is actual gold mine, same as minecraft servers if not better.

Jesus that's absurd. Then again, Minecraft is way bigger than any WoW private server.

I started my server with 20-30 players and had around 2.500 Brithis pounds first month

    I remember my server with approximately 5 - 10 players had 100€/Day

My friend also got a server some time ago, he was banking around 150€/Day 25-45 players daily).

Well, when I started my first business, I had big problems with the initial capital. I borrowed a certain part from friends and parents, and I took everything else from the company loan. It was important for me to get them quickly and with normal conditions. Therefore, I turned to the company emergency loans. Thanks to them, I was able to start my own business.

It definitely can be profitable but the income is inconsistent and subject to chargebacks. Also trying to file this as a legal income source that can be taxed is a consideration to take.

I still have a copy of the Peyton WoWscape court case: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u66ghzpbsi...laint.pdf?dl=0

    Key section being:

$1.5 million estimated revenue from running the most popular private server in 2008-2009.

I do not advocate for profit private servers at all.

It's not our product. It's a fun hobby but I would not want to commercialise something that is not mine and no permission has been given.
