Fiction or non fiction, most likely if there was a god it was a supreme being and that supreme being is dead and to call it a deity is ignorant and only restricts human greatness. Even more likely is that said supreme being was not singular but plural. A civilzation, if you will. Whom became leaders only because they promised great things, to save them from primitive human aggression.

The most likely option is that god and religion are bullshit stories that was created by primitive humans to explain natural phenomenon such as fire, rain, wind and whatever. The template of all other religions basically. Kings, emperors, leaders of the world learned how to benefit from this to bring people together and build stable communities.

    Food for thought, eh?

People are heavily influenced by the illusion of control (among others) and romanticise exercising control over the environment. Before science and technology, people still obsessed over control: it is evident through government, capitalism, religion, traditions, etc. The concept of "God" was established when people realised that they control nothing outside of their conscious mind, but their obsession forced them to believe that something must be controlling everything because everything is being controlled. In their arrogance, they imagined that there is an all-powerful, all-controlling deity called Allah, God, Jahweh, etc (what you call him depends on your religion) that man takes after. The truth is that humans are species of ape, deities do not exist and if you need a deeper explanation look inside yourself. Apes are attracted to shiny things; the shinier the object (or abstract), the more attractive it is. Religious people have been promising the "shiny" afterlife and "shiny" rewards to coax people into following them and allowing them to be controlled - yes it comes back to control. One cannot understand God, because God does not exist.

Religion may have been restricting, but without it we would all be savages. I, among plenty of others, find that religion played a huge part in our modern society, our values, and the entire belief of there being such a thing as ethics. Religion also plays a role in our current society. Christianity and Judaism are great examples of it being a helping hand in a time of need for people. I come from a Christian family, but I do indeed have agnostic beliefs.

The least we could do is to respect its impact on the world as we know it.

    Excuse the necropost.
