making a private wow Server illegal?

B) You have a BIG server

thats about all, for now blizzard is allowing servers to go because they have not taked any major actions to stop private servers besides cutting down on their coding

They cant stop it, there is WAY many private servers up now and blizzard cant make a stop to it.
Im guessing that they will try to make it harder to crack the realmlist in lich king, something like only 1 realmlist ( Both US and EU in one )

But then again, it will be a way to make a private server out of it even before lich king comes out i assume lol.

iv heard a rumor that before public test realms the higher up GM's on blizzard; created a private server so they could test things in a more dynamic way for like BC ect. well eventually the gm's let the code leak or something and blizzard was just to lazy to try and stop the "release" cause that would place pressure on the admins who used the "private" servers and eventually it has come to this.


in truth i have no idea or care to know if it is illegal/wrong.
i download music off limewire; i could careless if the police came to my house.

also i have no idea how these servers came to be i may look later but i doubt ill find a solid answer. let us just be happy we have them, use them while we can, and thank burlex at ascent;nate at acdb;whomever is the owner at ncdb; and the community for being imaginative and i suggest this topic be closed, tired of seeing it. also im sick of seeing half a million DB repack teams. all that is changed in them is either mall locations; different revs of ascent or just a rip off of another "db repack team". there are a few that stand out, and i applaud you.

We wished it were so easy. Nobody got much from Blizzard until we got our hands on the WOW Friends and Family client (anyone else remember that?). Then it was slow going until Codemonkey showed up then Stormcraft was formed and even before the retail release we had private servers up and going. Blizzard really cracked down hard on Stormcraft because WOW wasn't a big hit yet, heck it wasn't even for sale. Ahhh the good old days...

As for the OP's question it is against the EULA in every country, however some counrties still do not have computer crime and/or digital intellectual property laws so it depends where you live. Lookup the relevant laws for your country/state/province, you'll get educated in the process.

Hey guyz, i`ve seen lots of reports talking about Blizz being able of shutting down private servers but wont do it...Well i dont think this is very encouraging....Since they can close you up, you never know when they will do it and it just not worth it...I ve also seen lots of posts saying that priv. srvs. are illegal others say not illegal, where can we find details about it?Arent there any laws to read? (i have never read EULA so maybe theres something in there?) or maybe all those are included to copyright laws?
Oh and Blizz has 9million players (not 9million accounts!! 9mill players) so they `re making 9m x 14,5$(?)per month (i m from europe so its here its 20 euros for paycard, 1$<1 euro for about 1,3) so they make 103Mill and some change for dr peppers and cigarettes :P

Well its very debatable, but if you dont want to get ip banned from world of warcraft, dont even play on Private servers, becuse even editing the "realmlist.wtf" file is agienst the terms and conditions. Then when you extract the maps , thats going even further to takeing copyrighted material of blizzerd. But theres no way they will ever know unless you start spaming it in trade chat, so you should be fine.

Blizz doesn't care how much people you have cause they know that none private server can be like there's. Only care if you would charge them like you said.
