I've followed all of the steps for making a server public without Hamachi, and can connect to my own server just fine. But I have a friend over and he cannot connect. I have all firewalls that can be disabled disabled (the modem firewall can only be set on low, which as far as I can tell might as well be disabled because it accepts all inbound and outbound). My friend, being on the same modem, changed the set realmlist to 192.168.1.3 (my (the host) computer), and tries to connect but gets the "Unable to Connect" error. I am using a wireless laptop to host the server and he is hardwired to the modem, could this pose a problem? He has also tried changing the realmlist to the external IP and the DNS.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you Modded your Host file deep in your c:? Its Important to mod it too.

if you mean C:/windows/system32/drivers/ect/hosts.file than yes.
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 wowcats.dnsalias.com
192.168.1.3 wowcats.dnsalias.com
72.91.140.56 wowcats.dnsalias.com
Did this on host comp... does friend need to do this aswell?
Your friends doesnt have to do it unless he host. Check if all the needed ports are open + If you configured the Conf. File Right.
