View Full Version : BBCode disabled for new members.

Jargs
06-01-2009, 08:08 PM
I have posted this in the past but there has been recent confusion from new members who cannot use BBCode. In order to post BBCode new members must have 15 posts and be registered for 5 days. This measure was brought in to help fight spam.

Thanks
Jargs

It is a very beneficial feature, to be honest.

There are some undesirables that come in -> register an account -> spam like there is no tomorrow..

As QQ mentioned - this will lessen, if not remove, this from occuring..

Man thats so stupid....Just because there new people they have to wait before they can't do [/CODE] and [IMG] If they spam easy way to fix it ban them -_- Then this disables the members that don't spam not to do this

My opinion,
Stupid....

How is it stupid? You don't know how many spammers comes on ac-web and spam their crap. Also there is kids on this website and I'm sure their parents DO NOT want them to look at nasty pictures of spam, so this is good. You're 1 out of 1 people who dislikes this, and I for one think it's kinda stupid that you disagree.

Put it this way...it is win/win for everyone on many counts...

1. No more spam and porn and junk filling up our forums and hogging bandwidth.

2. Encourages new members to become involved..

3. Code and image tags and coloured text are not mandatory. You can tidy stuff up if ya stick around til your restriction is lifted.

4. The mods here used to have a LOT of work to do keeping a lot of this stuff down before you guys even see it. Our job is much easier now so we can focus on the more administrative (and supportive) elements of moderation.

You of course have the right to think it is stupid...Just thought I would point out why it is here and why it is staying.

As for sucking up to Jargs..I really doubt that was the intention of previous posters..The desire for clean and efficient forums plays the largest part in this argument, if an argument it indeed is...

It just encourages new members to post and try to be active rather then the hit n splitters and spammers, makes sense jargs

Seems to me you have something personal against me (which would be strange since I have never met/spoke to you in my life), stating that this feature is "stupid" and giving the solutions you did is just plain ignorant. If you don't have anything useful to say, don't say anything at all.

I think this is good because
1.Lot of new members come and spam shits
2.This make members more active.
3.If they want to be part of this community it wont be problem to fill those requirements

i have NO problem with ur "new" idea jargs but the 5 days wait thing is completely foolish

You have no problem posting..just a few disabled tags.

Not exactly a sign of the apocalypse.

Eventually you will get access to them an this will be a non-issue.

Weigh up the pros and cons.

Discussion closed.

Maybe an idea would be to just enable the [CODE]tag, because there are a lot of beginners posting their config files in the support section and I think it is harder to read if it is just copied into the post.

I don't know if this would help the spammers in any way and if anyone can think of a way spammers can use it please post it here.

This is just an idea I got a couple of minutes ago please tell me what you think about it.

I agree with you all code tags do is makes the thread compact. and they couldn't use it for any harm.

I don't think it is.
Because banning spammers isn't the only thing the mods have to do, and it adds up and become a lot of work.
So I think that it's good that some of the work will disappear due to this

I get the reasoning for this, it's just a tad annoying. 15 or so posts (even more!) is fine with me, but 5 days? If there is a spammer that's posting random links, I'm sure he'll be banned in plenty of time, and assuming a staff member is online certainly before the 15 or so post limit has been reached. The 5 days is just a bit much in my opinion, as it won't take that long for the staff to identify a spammer who's doing what he came to do. Just my opinion.

as understandable as it is, the restrictions really sucks.
i made an account just to post my launcher in here and surprise... after i click "post" my very beautifull topic ends up looking worse than a bugged text in notepad.

oh well...this makes the 16-th post i got over 10 days so i should finally be able to stop relying on people to quote my topic so it makes any sense.
