Here are some supportive statements, all based upon my life within the past 3 months [WITHIN THE PAST 3 MONTHS.]

This is the most severe example of language corruption
"Yah I has some Po Salah"
"Excuse me, ma'am?"
"Po Sala"
"Poke salad"
"Po."
"Potato salad?"
"yehhhh"

Also the street terms such as "I pop the 5-0 with my haze purples"
Also the pronounciation "Libary" "unpropper" "po?" "mah' for man" "***** for the southern term"

Another example is primarily lack of correct definitions
Man F*** them white boy.

Translated: Man have sex with the white guys

Verdict: Homosexual.

you understand.?

Not all African Americans talk like that...
Plus, who are you to judge how they should, and should not speak?

I'm Australian myself. But I wouldn't say that all the Americans in general are ruining the English language!
I mean, there'd be tons of Americans on AC-Web and many people here talk with proper grammar.

Since when is it cool to talk ignorant?

/agree. Since never! :)

Wayne?

Anyways, There is no such thing as street slang as you put it, the people of the United States are just getting lazier and lazier.

it will come to the point where asking a simple question like "Did you eat?" will come to the point where people would be saying "Jeet?"... then responses like "Did you?" will end up being said "Jew?"...

This has been going on for the past twenty years or so.

To be honest, I think it's more texting phrases and "l33t Sp3ak" that is ruing language more.

Especially in the gaming community your always seeing phrases like "w/e, he sux" and "lol" <lol

My worst favorites are "u" and "wut, wat" They annoy me lol.

But that's just my opinion. Street slang isn't really a problem I don't think. It just makes it easier to communicate. But, of course, there are those that take slang wayyy to far to the point of illiteracy.

And even though I live in the US, I totally agree with Diablothein. All these younger generations are getting shitty educations.....which leads into a whole other topic lol

My family and I made a joke about the beginnings of bad grammatical skills.

My niece was born May 1st, So my parents and I visited the Hospital where my sister-in-law was.

Seeing as my Sister-in-law wanted to naturally feed her, they put a note on the crib she is being kept until the hospital releases them that says the following. "i eat at momz"

Please explain that.

I agree that the increasing use of Modern Ebonics in America is causing a corruption of the English language.

You may or may not believe that African Americans are the originating cause of this, I prefer to just read:

A term created by a group of black scholars, Ebonics may be defined as "the linguistic and paralinguistic features which on a concentric continuum represent the communicative competence of the West African, Caribbean, and United States slave descendant of African origin. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebonics)

I find this to be quite upsetting that most of the young America is speaking the way they do. Remember, this is our future, this is America.

"Da Amrica peoplz iz in some maja deep shit dogz, har howz we gonna deal wit dez fooz." ~ Quote from our president in 2055

You can't say, that wouldn't upset you in some way.

I fully understand that anyone who speaks like this, usually can speak proper, or somewhat close to proper English. Why people choose to retard there language like this makes no sense.

I prefer kidney, kidney, temple myself.:D

Its all that damn rap musics fault. But seriously Its so cool to be black cause everyone so afraid of offending the blacks. I'm not racist but it gets me very upset to see how white Americans are taught to be ashamed of being white. If a black man says black power no one bats a fucking eye lash, a white man who is not racist says white power the fucking country would be up in arms. Thanks you ac web I've finally decided when I retire I'm moving up on a mountain and never coming down again.

main reasons of this-

-internet speak
-African Americans ( no offense )
-Chav's
-Gangster's
-teenage text messaging ( short words ) eg:
cba= Cant be arsed
nvm= Never mind

A language advances over time, I'm sure that 50 year ago words like cool were also seen as "ruining the language".

Diablothein

Gangsters have nothing to do with "Street Slang". They never imply what they mean.

Rubbing people out, synonym for Whacking people, all means Killing them.

See, they still use the language of the old world Chicago.

Bumping this to laugh at mako1...

Nice use of street slang, not bothering to correct your mistake.

As for the topic, Street Slang is pretty much the modern Tower of Babel.

Try living in the southern United States for five years, in the middle of Alabama (I'd die in the first 10 minutes), then go to New York. You will not understand what anyone is saying, nor would anyone understand you.

People united too much, so the split continues, driving people apart in culture, language, and beliefs.

Reading on some of the earlier responses. Replying to Prophetx saying something about punching people.

To be honest, I like to just say stuff normal. I like making people feel like complete idiots without raising my voice, or making any violent remarks.

now would you?... really? :O I would go for solar plexus right on..! ^^

Because of all this "street slang" people from countrys which do not have english as their first language will have a harder time learning it. They also learns alot of the "street slang" and will spread it further on. So as long as you don't do anything to stop it, it will spread :/
Iam from sweden myself and learned most of my english from the internet as we speak swedish over here.

Not all african americans talk like that. I have some african americans friends that act completely white.

i got in a fite with an african american a few months ago. he was a gang banger tho, completely different from my friend.

"main, you bout get robbed" is what he said

"Man, your about to get robbed" is what my friend would say.

"main, you bout get robbed" <------ GANG DUDE

"Man, your about to get robbed" <----- NON-GANG DUDE

Honestly, I think it's WHITE KIDS AND BLACK KIDS who destroy the English language JUST TO ACT COOL IN FRONT OF THEIR FRIENDS.

I find it repulsive, I mean. Is it so hard not to talk like you just had your tongue paralyzed?

I, atleast find it to ruin most things. Who wants to listen to someone that's so lazy so that they can't finish their own words?

Well, Americans ruined English for a start, and slang isn't doing that much to english, every country has slang (especially my country :P) it evantually becomes part of the language itself, but i dont want street slang doing that.

It's funny how American English sounds so much different from British English even though the majority of Americans came from Britain, and Australia too it seems if you speak English and move to a different country it will turn into some weird dialect of British English :P
