View Full Version : This is what I think is Happening in 2012

In December of the year 2012 our planet will cross into the "other side" of our galaxy.
The Mayan calendar accurately predicted this event!
Their long form calendar ends on December 21, 2012, the exact day that this event will occur!
The Mayan calendar was known to exist before modern astronomy discovered this fact.
Just like our moon orbits around the Earth and our planet orbits around the sun in our solar system, our galaxy (called the Milky Way by star gazers in North America) spins in a gigantic circle. Our galaxy is a very small part of the universe.
In December of the year we call 2012, our galaxy will spin the Earth's solar system into the "other" side of our galaxy.
Some people predict that this will cause the magnetic poles to switch. (It has happened before according to evidence in crystals found world wide but it's not known for sure why.) While the switching of the poles and the end of the world as we know it in the year 2012 are purely speculation, the fact that our solar system will travel into the "other side" of our galaxy for the first time in over 26,000 years is undisputed.
On December 22, 2012 a new long form Mayan calendar will begin. It's not the end of the world, it's just the beginning of another Mayan calendar as our tiny planet travels through a small solar system in a modest galaxy in the infinite universe.

NOTHING WILL HAPPPEN ON 2012! People just like it because the fucking numbers are the same, its like saying on 1-1-10001 the world wil end.

Cillian, the numbers aren't the same. The Mayan calendar ends on the 21st of December, not the 20th.
Cyberspacedemon, you've backed up your theory with good solid evidence. Thanks for sharing it with us :) I was getting tired of seeing posts about the world going up in flames.
Do you think you could do a bit of research and explain to us what some of the theories behind pole shifts are? I'd be interested to know what some experts predict would happen.

So what is the Mayan Calendar? The calendar was constructed by an advanced civilization called the Mayans around 250-900 AD. Evidence for the Maya empire stretches around most parts of the southern states of Mexico and reaches down to the current geological locations of Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and some of Honduras. The people living in Mayan society exhibited very advanced written skills and had an amazing ability when constructing cities and urban planning. The Mayans are probably most famous for their pyramids and other intricate and grand buildings. The people of Maya had a huge impact on Central American culture, not just within their civilization, but with other indigenous populations in the region. Significant numbers of Mayans still live today, continuing their age-old traditions.
The Mayans used many different calendars and viewed time as a meshing of spiritual cycles. While the calendars had practical uses, such as social, agricultural, commercial and administrative tasks, there was a very heavy religious element. Each day had a patron spirit, signifying that each day had specific use. This contrasts greatly with our modern Gregorian calendar which primarily sets the administrative, social and economic dates. Most of the Mayan calendars were short. The Tzolk'in calendar lasted for 260 days and the Haab' approximated the solar year of 365 days. The Mayans then combined both the Tzolk'in and the Haab' to form the "Calendar Round", a cycle lasting 52 Haab's (around 52 years, or the approximate length of a generation). Within the Calendar Round were the trecena (13 day cycle) and the veintena (20 day cycle). Obviously, this system would only be of use when considering the 18,980 unique days over the course of 52 years. In addition to these systems, the Mayans also had the "Venus Cycle". Being keen and highly accurate astronomers they formed a calendar based on the location of Venus in the night sky. It's also possible they did the same with the other planets in the Solar System.
Using the Calendar Round is great if you simply wanted to remember the date of your birthday or significant religious periods, but what about recording history? There was no way to record a date older than 52 years.
he base year for the Mayan Long Count starts at "0.0.0.0.0". Each zero goes from 0-19 and each represent a tally of Mayan days. So, for example, the first day in the Long Count is denoted as 0.0.0.0.1. On the 19th day we'll have 0.0.0.0.19, on the 20th day it goes up one level and we'll have 0.0.0.1.0. This count continues until 0.0.1.0.0 (about one year), 0.1.0.0.0 (about 20 years) and 1.0.0.0.0 (about 400 years). Therefore, if I pick an arbitrary date of 2.10.12.7.1, this represents the Mayan date of approximately 1012 years, 7 months and 1 day.
This is all very interesting, but what has this got to do with the end of the world? The Mayan Prophecy is wholly based on the assumption that something bad is going to happen when the Mayan Long Count calendar runs out. Experts are divided as to when the Long Count ends, but as the Maya used the numbers of 13 and 20 at the root of their numerical systems, the last day could occur on 13.0.0.0.0. When does this happen? Well, 13.0.0.0.0 represents 5126 years and the Long Count started on 0.0.0.0.0, which corresponds to the modern date of August 11th 3114 BC. Have you seen the problem yet? The Mayan Long Count ends 5126 years later on December 21st, 2012.

The only proof presented here is opinions, and coincidences.
(Not directed at the civilization, btw)
The calendar is overly vague about many details. Vague enough to be interpreted by people in many ways. Starting from that, it explains the string of coincidences.
Ever heard of the program "daisy"? It's an artificial intelligence that knows how to speak to humans. Or is it? It actually mimics answers from previous conversations, if the answer has keywords that link somehow to the question asked, More people it talks to, the bigger answer vocabulary it has.
(it's a bit more complicated then that however, But in a nutshell it's the same logical choice selection method as in the example.)
after 500+ topics, it's answers had become vague enough to be considered valid and meaningful answers, even if they had no inherit meaning, the people who "talked" to daisy believed that there was. Even if 70% of answers did not make sence at all, that one or two questions that by chance had been answered in a way that the human could connect to something, that was enough.
Point comes short that humans look for meaning everywhere. Even if it's just a string of half-connected events. And they are damn good at it too. ;)
Hence the popularity of this subject. I have heard a lot of things from "Global warming will flood everything, in a neo-Noah's flood, at 1012" to "an economic shutdown by 1012, due to the sudden end of oil." And to "World war 3 will end at 1012, and the whole world would have nuked itself to death!" And all of them stem from the last part of that calander.
So how can one explained event on the calander, have so many completely different answers to how the doomsday would be?
In short, the basis of your argument does not have enough solid facts behind it to prove much. Have you checked out china? they also got high up there early on. So did the Egyptians, Greeks, and romans too. (From a cultural point of view)
In this new age, when something new comes out, internet makes sure everyone else knows about it. Back then whole cultures could develop, boom, then die, without another knowing it. So if the romans could come to the same point as the mayans, and not know a thing about them, does that make their greek gods and doomsday equally valid?
/continue discussion.

Nothing will happen in 2012. Some people say people can't 'prove' it, But some people like me can ;) It is a MYTH, The so called 'calendars' from mayans are not correct. Some religions don't believe what you think. I'm stating what I think.
Jumpy09

This is more directed to the creator of the thread but will probably ease some other people as well.
There are so many theories to what will happen on that day, here is a couple.
1. Giant Dwarf Star with Giants passing by our planet to invade and get their gold which the earliest of civilizations mined for. Woosh *tilt* RAWR!! Just imagine it.
2. The Earth passing through the Dark Ring of our Galaxy. If you were to see the Galaxy from a dead level side view the ring is supposedly very thin and has a lot of Gravitational pull.
3. This theory about us passing on the other side of the Galaxy causing a shift in magnetic polarity.
This is to name a few and trust me you don't want to know what all is behind the Drawf Star theory, lmao. Each one of them predicts a shift in magnetic polarity due to Revelations and the predicted Apocalypse. Now if everyone remembers correctly Man has free will, so it's impossible to predict the exact behavior of one person without past knowledge. So the Apocalypse can change in when it is to occur based on the actions of us mere-mortals. (For you Bible Buffs!)
In the Bible it also states about Giants, so there is another reason for that theory. The only issue is the Bible was formed on the complete opposite side of the World from the Mayan Calender and when you combine a bunch of knowledge people start to see patterns, predicting what turns out to be nothing.
The only way the Mayans could of known to set a Calendar for specific events is to have past knowledge. 26,000 Years is a large vast of time and the Mayans were not around long enough to notice the events of us going from one side of the Galaxy to the next.
To put a hole in your Theory as to other theories such as the Dwarf Star here is scientific facts.
1. As we spin around the black hole in the center of our Universe we would have directional pull from the center at all times. This would change ever so slightly as we spin around keeping equal, yet the same, type of pull at all times. We don't just pop from one side to the other side, which would cause a significant change in gravitational pull.
2. Dwarf Star Theory: Some people say NASA took a picture of the star from behind the Sun. If you remember in science class we rotate around the Sun. Why wouldn't we see it?
Even though the chances of anything BESIDES the theory of us passing through the center of the galaxy (from a side view not dead smack in the center from the top view) are non-existent I do love to talk about these Theories in the Fantasy type aspect. Just the thought of aliens actually touching down on our planet would unit us all. For most of the people it would be in the terms of virus coding to destroy all Alien Technology and for you Developers/Coders it would be reverse engineering their technology, for everyone to Emulate. Thanks, I could use an Alien Lightsaber or Assault Rifle.
The only thing that will happen IF and only IF the Mayan Calendar does come to an end on December 21st, 2012 is it resets to 0.0.0.0. Of course I thank the Mayans because their calendar looks like an IP Address, coincidence? lmao.
Yeah, so if anyone actually reads this then thanks. IF not, I don't blame you.
Moral of the Story: Nothing Major happens, and if it does... well there will be a hell of a lot of people crying for mom and hiding in their closets or under their beds. :) Sorry!

And to the original starter of this topic, you should do a bit more research. Earth crosses over 2 times every single year and has been for centuries. In June, and again on December 21st. But that is every year on December 21st, 2005..2006..2007..2008... and it will on 2012 and then again on 2013 and so on. The reason people are so freaked over about this is because of that and the Mayan Calender both land on the exact same date.

The Mayans had a very precise understanding of our solar system's cycles and believed that these cycles coincided with our spiritual and collective consciousness. The most significant of which has much to do with the 2012 prophecies. In the following writing, we will walk through the main details of their prophecies surrounding the 2012 transition. How the transition takes place (from an astronomical perspective), what it means for us, and when the cycles take place. We'll start with the basic prophecies and later move deeper into the explanation of the cycles. The Mayans prophesied that from 1999 we have 13 years to realize the changes in our conscious attitude to stray from the path of self-destruction and instead move onto a path that opens our consciousness to integrate us with all that exists.
The Mayans knew that our Sun, or Kinich-Ahau, every so often synchronized with the enormous central galaxy. And from this central galaxy received a 'spark' of light which causes the Sun to shine more intensely producing what our scientists call 'solar flares' as well as changes in the Sun's magnetic field. The Mayans say that this happens every 5,125 years. But also that this causes a displacement in the earths rotation, and because of this movement great catastrophes would be produced.
The Mayans believed the universal processes, like the 'breathing' of the galaxy, are cycles that never change. What changes is the consciousness of man that passes through it. Always in a process toward more perfection. Based on their observations, the Mayans predicted that from the initial date of the start of their civilization, 4 Ahau, 8 Cumku which is 3113 B.C., after one cycle being completed 5,125 years in their future, December 21st, 2012. The Sun, having received a powerful ray of synchronizing light from the center of the galaxy, would change its polarity which would produce a great cosmic event that would propel human kind to be ready to cross into a new era, The Golden Age. It is after this, that the Mayans say we will be ready to go through the door that was left by them, transforming our civilization based on fear to a vibration much higher in harmony. Only from our individual efforts could we avoid the path to great cataclysm that our planet will suffer to start a new era, the sixth cycle of the Sun. The Mayan civilization was in the fifth cycle of the Sun, and there were four other great civilizations before them that were destroyed by great natural disasters. They believed that each cycle was just one stage in the collective consciousness of humanity.
In the last cataclysm of the Mayans, the civilization was destroyed by a great flood that left little survivors of which were their descendants. They believed that having known the end of their cycle, mankind would prepare for what is to come in the future and it is because of this that they would have preserved the dominant species; the human race. They say that coming changes will permit us to make a quantum leap forward in the evolution of our consciousness to create a new civilization that would manifest great harmony and compassion to all humankind. Their first prophecy talks about 'The Time of No-Time'. A period of 20 years, which they call a Katún. The last 20 years of the Sun's cycle of 5,125 years. This cycle is from 1992 - 2012. I'll explain this in greater detail later. They predicted that during these times, solar winds would become more intense and could be seen on the Sun. This would be a time of great realization and great change for mankind. And it would be our own lack of preservation and contamination of the planet that would contribute to these changes. According to the Mayans, these changes would happen so that mankind comprehends how the universe works so we could advance to superior levels, leaving behind superficial materialism and liberating ourselves from suffering.
For the Mayans, everything is numbers and the time of the 13 sacred numbers started in August 1999. They predicted that along with the eclipse, the forces of nature would act like a catalyst of changes so accelerated and with such magnitude that mankind would be powerless against them. Also, that our technologies in which we rely on so much would begin to fail us. We would no longer be able to learn from our civilization in the way that we are organized as a society. They said that our internal, spiritual development would require a better place along with a better way to interact with more respect and compassion.
Solar eclipse of August 11, 1999 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_eclipse_of_August_11,_1999)
The Mayan prophecy tells us that in 1999, our solar system began to leave the end of the fifth cycle which started in 3113 B.C. and that we find ourselves in the morning of our galactic day, exiting darkness and on the verge of being in plain day of our central galaxy in 2012. They say that at the beginning and end of these cycles, which is to say, every 5,125 years, the central sun or light of the galaxy emits a ray of light so intense and so brilliant that it illuminates the entire universe. It is from this burst of light that all of the Suns and planets sync. The Mayans compare this burst to the pulse of the universe, beating once every 5,125 years. It is these pulses that mark the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next. Each pulse lasting 20 years, a Katún.
What I’m saying is that they have been correct before, so its sumthing to at least think about, yet I do not believe the world will end in 2012 either way. And to be honest their description of how our civilization would be and how are technology that we rely on so much could easily fail us, is pretty much us right now in a nut shell.

Found some stuff about this thingie that "will happen" in 2012:
What Will Happen on December 21, 2012?
What we perceive from our vantage point of being in human form is only a teeny sliver of the infinite swirl of interpenetrating realities that make up the universe. To us, there is a past, present, and future. Time appears to move predictably from moment to moment forming the days and years of our lives. 2012 is a real date on our calendars and each of the possible scenarios can be seen to be advancing steadily toward it like racehorses to the finish line.
If you were to ask the "2012 End-of-the-World" question of a gifted psychic, she (or he) would gaze into several of the parallel universes making up our possible futures and report back on the one that seemed to be the most vivid. This is like a handicapper picking the favorite in a particular race. Just as in horse racing, the favorite often wins or comes close. But, not always. On any given day, one of the long shots might cross the line first while the favorite trails the field.
From a cosmic perspective, picking the winning scenario is easy. Understanding the nature of how this can be done is considerably more elusive. Infinity is impossible to grasp in finite terms. When we pose a finite question in an infinite realm, it's like trying to cram a herd of stampeding elephants into a matchbox. It won't be the lack of effort that defeats us, but the minuscule size of the container we are trying to use. Our minds are the matchbox. We are going to have to think way out of the box to begin to grasp the answer to how our world will fare on December 21, 2012.
Global Focus
The simple answer is that every one of the possible scenarios you can envisage will find expression in one or more of the myriad parallel universes that manifests in every instant. And that includes the date spoken about by so many as the moment our world will come to an end.
What adds weight to this date is the fact that with each passing hour more people are becoming aware of it, adding their energies to the consensus. We have already seen the power of agreement at work in events such as World Healing Day, The Harmonic Convergence and other similar moments of global focus. It was not the calendar date that created the power; it was the cohesive intent of those who took part.
Ancient Cultures Share 2012 Prophecy
Having said that, it is no mere coincidence that so many disparate cultures all around the world, that have had no known contact with one another, should focus on the same date.
There is increasing evidence that the time leading up to the final solstice of 2012 does mark the presence of an energy portal that has never before been accessible to the human race. Each of us is being offered an opportunity to shift that may not again arise in thousands of years to come.
Whether December 21, 2012 actually marks an immutable cosmological event or becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy is moot. There is no question that it looms as a very significant moment.
What concerns most people, is how they and their loved ones will be affected. At one end of the bell-curve of probabilities is total physical annihilation. At the opposite end is the arrival of the Golden Age we all dream about. Every other conceivable possibility lies between them. Somewhere near the center of the curve most people will find their most likely scenario in which the monumental moment will pass quietly like Y2K and their lives will appear to continue as if nothing happened at all.
December 22, 2012 will dawn as clocks continue to tick and the human race continues to move one day closer to whatever future harvest it has sown. That doesn't mean that many other people, who live their lives at the extremities of the curve, won't experience radically different events.
Deciding Your Fate in 2012
Imagine if you will, that you are in the center of a vast central train station.
The tracks are arranged like the spokes of a giant wheel, each moving away from the center in a different direction. The trains are all scheduled to depart at the same moment on December 21, 2012.
Every human being on Earth is at the station; free to board any of the trains he or she chooses. Each train is destined for a different parallel universe in which one of the innumerable possibilities is played out.
You (like everyone else) are at the station and must get on one of an almost infinite number of trains. But, like the psychic, you can only see one or two of them. Your choices appear meager — almost as if you had no choice at all and your future was determined totally by fate. Such is not the case at all — unless, of course, you allow it to be.
If you remember the station scene in the Harry Potter books (or movies) in which the wizard children were able to board the Hogwarts Express on platform 9 3/4 by walking straight through a concrete pillar, then you will begin to see how all this works. What is delightfully easy for wizards is equally impossible for muggles (non-wizards).
The Hogwarts Express is bound for the next dimension — the Golden Age of our dreams. The problem is that until you become a wizard, you have no way of finding the right platform. The world, as you know it, will definitely end on December 21, 2012, if that's what you choose. You will definitely be there when it happens, seated on one of the infinite number of trains leaving the station. Every one of us will be required to be on board.
Now that you know where you will be on the day the world ends, you get to decide which train you'd like to ride. There is still time (according to the calendars of this illusion) before the trains must leave the station. Plenty of time for you to leave your muggle world behind and become the wizard you already are. The choice, as always, is yours.

Well... Clearly you're a fucking idiot (I was being intellectual saying that, I held my pinky up high as a wrote), the Mayan calender never predicted anything, they simply stopped counting. Or what did you think? That they'd go on calculating for an infinite amount of time?
Bahhh... Piss off, you useless Nostradamus prick. (Again, pinky...)

Proof? None. Why? Information that was deciphered incorrectly will never be 100% correct as it is foolish to even consider writing that was done around 250 A.D to be superior compared to this current date.
People conjured up a similar event for the year 2000 in which I can hope many of you remember. Difference with this event is, people claim to have an ancient chart that supports their asinine theory.

The world isn't going to end in 2012.. If it was supposed to end, it would have happened long ago. (When ''Jesus'' was born, for it was the beginning of the end of the world. (Christianity.))

''I ran out of rock.''
