View Full Version : what "is" out there?

its hard to imagine what is out there. we are tought there used to be nothing anywhere x amount of years ago. then something happened, even though "Nothing" was out there, and a huge explosion took place. after time dust gathered and made planets, solar systems, galaxies etc,. then water was formed on earth and everything just flurished with life after that.
well, what i cant understand is what "Is" out there. people say that there is no such thing as aliens or anything. why do they beleive that? if the universe goes on and on neverending then how could we possibly be the only living race or organism in this universe. it does not make sense to me.
and xtavie, this is me trying to make a killer thread :D

Well.. there obviously is other life out there. We are only one of 13 known planets in our galaxy, there are billions of other galaxies. So what is to say, this one planet in billions can contain life, at least one other one has to possess life - Although not as we would picture them to be, (Small green men, with giant heads), as the media would lead us to believe.

There could be dinosaurs. Who knows. I believe there is SOMETHING out there or was something there. What really is the probability of us being the only life here and there being almost ∞ planets out there!

The universe is not infinite. The most popular theory is that the universe is in the shape of a donut and is always expanding. The second part to this theory is that eventually it will reach it's maximum mass and implode.

Ahh omfg every time i think about this i 100% blank out, after i zone back in, i tear up. No idea why. I just think it's scary, how we, after all that's going on in this ONE world, there could be infinite more just like this.

Actually, contrare to popular belief, there was no explosion as such in the Big Bang. Your better off calling it the Big Blast Furnace. Basically, everything was in the form of something called a singularity. A singularity is like when your wife (somehow) gets ALL of her clothes in a small 30x30cm suitcase (I've seen it happen. It ain't pretty). It's a infinitely small amount of space in which millions upon millions of tons of matter are compressed into it. This singularity expanded, from the Boiling heat it was to the temperature it is today. This is my most likely theory, because EVERYTHING is moving away from each other, meaning that it must have come from a central point right? And of course, since they are still losing temperature, the universe will soon hit -276 degrees (something like that), which is absolute zero. NOTHING can move at this temp., so the Universe will die out.
This is just a theory, but it's my side of the argument I guess.

You did pretty well at explaining what a singularity is :) have you read into spacetime much? Understanding some of the theories behind spacetime really helps to understand how the universe could've expanded so rapidly.

Consider the entire world as representation of the universe.
Your trying to find out if there is a perfect girl out there, that shares everything you do in common. She likes the same things, thinks the same way, Is really pretty, smart, and could probably get a really good job. And she digs you unconditionally, from the moment your eyes would make contact.
Know anyone like that?
Chances are no. Not in your city, or even your region.
But already you would have a ton of nearly identical people just in your region.
Now take the # of people in the world. Let's say the girl you are after is on a 0.0001% chance. Do the calculations. Lot more people then you expected should be the correct answer ;)
People = planets
The dream girl = Planet capable of life.
In the VAST universe, there is just bound to be way more then one planet capable of supporting life. Hell I'd go as far as to say a ton of planets out there house even more advance races there our own.
You know the slogans that are allways going "Ever 15 minuts someone dies in a car accident!" or "Every 3 seconds some poor kid dies from starvation!" Or these sort of things.
I wonder how many planets out there suddenly create their first primal life form, let's say every 10,000 years?
I'd bet my epics there are more then 1.

I think there is other life out there.
Its impossible that we are the only living creatures in whole galaxy
theres much more but people just didnt find it yet.

According to calculations done by Stephen Hawking, there should be 2.5 planets in the universe able to support life... That doesn't the other 1.5 DO have life. In my eyes, aliens are things figments of the human imagination and that's what they will always stay...

Mm, all of these posts I'm seeing are starting to make me sick to my stomach. I'm waiting for a real subject we can actually get into. This is just a small scratch on my brain. Try harder, Oandy, then I'll decide to waste my time and blather on with my opinion and facts.

How could it reach its maximum mass? Its not like its going to run into anything. It IS everything! Its making its own mass to fill, so how can it reach its maximum?

WTF?? What is that for? There is nothing in this thread to make you say that...

I'm sorry but you described me. That is what happened to me. The moment I saw her, and she saw me, in KINDERGARTEN, we both knew there was something special about each other. I still remember that day.... Now we are both perfectly happy. She is beautiful, smart, hilarious, and filled the rest of my near empty heart. <3 :D. I'm sorry, I am a somewhat...feminine type guy....please don't flame me. I really feel this was about her. :D:D:P:D

First of all, Artilles, I'm sure this is counted as flaming.
Second, how about stick to the Child forum, Intellectual Discussion.
Thirdly, stick to the topic.
(NOTE: I know I'm off-topic, and I don't care.)

It's a little hard to explain so you'll need to read up about critical mass and all that palava. Basically everything has a maximum mass that it can sustain. Stars either explode or implode once they have reached critical mass - the ones that implode form what we know as "black holes".
The theory is that the Universe is so vast that it could not produce enough energy to explode, so eventually it will implode on itself and form, well, nothing! :)
